Working on H4 & paying taxes
My Wife is a H4 (Dependent )VISA holder. She recently got a job offer
in alocal company.
Can she start working on H4 & pay taxes as usual as she already has her tax ID?
Thanks

No way Raghu.
As an H-4 she won't be entitled to a SSN and so she cannot work.
I think what you mean by Tax-id is a TIN number. Thats a number that is used ONLY for tax purposes when you file your taxes and you have to include your wife's details in the Form. It does not purport to giving the H-4 holder any right to work.

Absolutely not! As an H4, she is absolutely NOT allowed to work.
The only way she can work is to get a work visa in her own right.

That company needs to sponsor her for an H-1.

She may not be ELIGIBLE for an H1 ... that's why I said "get a work visa
in her own right".

What can't she change from H4 to H1? Not eligible?

Good grief Charlie Brown! First, the job must be eligible to get an H1B
(or any other work status), and second her education must be sufficient
for her to get an H1B (or other qualifications for other work
statuses). She can't go and get an H1B to do just any job.
All I said was that she may not be eligible for an H1 ... there are
several other work statuses that she may or may not be eligible for ...
she's not limited to H1B.
