Article in today's LA Times compares it as a cross between Trader Joe's and Ralph's ( a regular CA supermarket)

Now stop with the various Tesco's threads proclaiming it to be a British style Tesco's

well they opened yesterday about a mile from me, went in today and it was rammed, they are selling exactly the same onion bharjis, samosa and ready curries as in England AND very nice back bacon. It looks like Tescos and even smells like Tescos. Nice ready made sarnies as well..I'm as happy as a pig in shit, shame the bread is still shit Its nothing like Trader Joes nor Ralphs.

We don't even have a WholeFoods in this sad city, with about 3 Mill in the general Bay area....have to drive an hour south if we want, to a city that is composed of snowbirds for the most part. How sad is that?

Yay!!! Now there's another shop I can't get a decent bottle of white wine in.
Why not Sainsburys? The food was nyeugh but the vino... oh, their 2.99 Vin de Pays de Gascogne was like bitey little necter.
Tescos was always brilliant to shop in (wife went there every week, even though we lived next door to the big Sainsburys) but their wine selection was poor.
Oh, wait, forgot. You can't have wine in the supermarkets in New Jersey. It might corrupt the kids or something. They'll have to settle for shotguns shells and bottles of 5,000 paracetemol or something instead.

Went to Tesco's Fresh n Easy today to check it out. The shelves were pretty empty but you could still see what they had by the labels.
Does seem like a cross between a large Trader Joe's and a regular American supermarket, just as the LA times article I posted said.
The only difference was that TJ's has more nuts, dried fruit and specialty type foods, a larger selection of cheeses, wine and imported beer. The wine in TJ's is also better priced .
The positives are that I did find Tea bags ( which I have yet to taste for strength) a bargain at $ 1.99 for 100 if they are good. They had Pataks spice jars, mini onion bhajis and samosas ( which are no big deal as there is an Indian store near me that makes them fresh) and British style bacon at $4.99 a pound.
Creme Fraiche, Membrillo ( a Spanish cheese chutney) tapas meats and duck pate were some other items I bought.
Thier meat is fresh and nicely packaged and they have a nice selection of sandwiches, soups and a few ready made meals. Seemed a bit pricey though. Good place to suplement your weekly shop for a few items that a regular store or Trader Joe's does not have, and very clean , which it will be as it's brand new.
Ironically I can't compare it to Tesco's in the UK as I have been shopping in the US for the last 20 years.
See pics, last one is my stuff that might appeal to other Brits
