When does a visa start from?
 

Does it start from the date it's issued or from when you first enter the country on that visa?

My visa category (2 years) is from the day it was issued. I got an I-94 for 2 years from the day I entered the country however.

This is for an L1 visa so just trying to assess if when we got issued the visa but didn't leave for 2 months would we lose 2 months of our initial 12 in getting the business up and running?

yes you do -ours was issued 3-4 weeks ago expiry date Aug 30 2011
