Whats the current H1 quota status

Hi All,

Can anyone pint me the site/link where I can check the current H1 quota
status. I will need a new H1 to work in US.

What are the details about release of H1 quota each year. What is it
for this year? and is the split half-half for October and April quota
release?

Your best bet is to follow this newsgroup, and/or visit various lawyer Web
sites.

No, the quota is not split. The full quota is always released October 1,
because that is the date the (fiscal) year starts in the USA. The April
date is simply the earliest your employer can apply for an October start
date.

There are actually several individual quotas. The general quota is
(currently) 65,000 per year. The quota for the 2005/2006 year has been
reached a long time ago, and the quota for the 2006/2007 year will become
available October 1; you can apply starting April 1.

Then there is the quota for people with Master's degrees from a US
university (20,000 per year). As far as I know, there are still H-1Bs
available for the 2005/2006 fiscal year under this quota.

And finally, there are some quota-exempt positions where you can always get
an H-1B regardless of the quota situation. This primarily applies to
universities and some other research non-profit organizations.
