Default What is the maximum duration that a Canadian citizen can stay in US?

Hi all,

I'm a Canadian citizen and reside in HK for years. My boyfriend just
moved to LA months ago for his new job with a H1 visa status. I visit
my bf last Christmas and still in US now. When I enter US, the
immigration officier didn't give me a chop on my passport. In this
case, can I stay up to six months in US? I'm planning to go back to
Canada to visit my family but will revisit US again, should I apply a
visa? Apply in US or in Canada? And what kind of visa do I need to
apply?

Thanks for your help!

Sam

Canadians are not normally issued visitor visas because they are exempt. You can remain for up to 180 days unless they limit that stay with an I-94. Also, you cannot violate your status by working or doing something else you're not allowed to do.

You may be required to prove to the officer that you are not immigrating to the US when you seek entry. Everyone is assumed to be an immigrant without an immigrant visa until they prove otherwise.
