What exactly are the fingerprints before your AOS interview for? What are they checking
for? Is it mainly to see if you have a criminal record or what? What other things do they
search for? And what agency conducts the background check? Thanks in advance.

P.S. Are the prints taken with ink or through live scan?

Sandy,

The basic purpose is to check for a criminal record, prior felonies here in the US and
likely Canada.

It possibly is also to see whether one is wanted by Interpol and/or other
investigative agencies. To check if one was an ex-Nazi, druglord, has links to the mob
or things like that.

I suppose the main purpose is to check how true one has been checking off all those little
boxes on all those INS forms.

The investigation is conducted by the FBI though, and I don't know if true, I have heard
that the CIA gets in on the act too.

Most INS ASC's(Application Support Centers) use a digital imaging technique(they do
douse your hands with soap, in order to get the prints). Probably some of the older
centers use ink. JJ
