welcome letter
I just recieved my "welcome letter" from the INS.
On there it said I would receive my green card within the next three weeks, and that
I should call a certain number if I did not receive it.
Now I have just been in the country for about 2 weeks (after DCF through Amsterdam)
and I did not expect anything close to a green card for another 9 months or so.
What is the catch here? Am I actually receiving it within the next three weeks, or
are those three weeks just the default wording in the letter that they never bothered
to change and I still have to wait for about 9 months or more? Anyone?

Re: welcome letter
I got my letter(s) and green card same day (separate envelopes), only 17 days after
our AOS interview...at my interview they had told me to expect it between 4 and 12
months. Apparently, they send out the welcome letter just before sending the card, so
you can probably expect it soon.

No 'catch' at all. My wife entered the US 7 March after DCF in London last year.
Her green card arrived less than 30 days later (before or at the same time as 2
'welcome letters'). Green cards after AOS in the US seem to be arriving fairly
quickly as well.
My guess is that you will get the card sooner rather than later. We were told 6
months until the card would arrive at the POE (Newark) but that is obviously just an
estimate they give and may or may not be true, like all estimates.

My husband received two welcome letters. We had to laugh because they came from
Houston, the place he was detained for thirty days and from where he was deported.
His card came within three weeks.

Re: welcome letter
I got two welcome letters and a green card inside two weeks of AOS approval at the Dallas office.
No catch, just smile when you get it ;-)
