Default Want to move to the US to live with my girlfriend "help"

hi,so i am needing some advice because right now i am so overwhelmed and confused with trying together my head around it all...basically my girlfriend is a US citizen i am a british citizen we have been together for a year... I have wanted to move there for some years but never looked into it much until recently... How do i go about getting a visa? Which do i go for? I am wanting stay in the US permanently with my partner (live with her) she has a job if that helps.. I on the other hand do not at the moment nor do i have any qualifications! ๐Ÿ˜” will that effect my ability to live and work in the US? Money for a passport etc is not an issue as my family has offered to help with getting me to the US... Do i apply for a green card? I am truly lost on where to begin with this! Would i be able to move to the US and live with my girlfriend while i try and get permanent residency? .... Where do i begin!? I know about the civics test etc that worries me also (i have anxiety) can anyone help please point me in the right direction.. Have any experience with this? All advice and information with be greatly welcomed thanks

Someone will be along shortly to point you in the direction of the wiki link with all the different visa options.

But to cut a long story short, as you don't have any qualifications, a job, or large sums of money your only option would likely be to get married to your US girlfriend.

Hi, welcome to BE

Forget about the civics test and don't worry about that for now - it's only relevant for citizenship apps, so you're many years away from needing to concern yourself with that!

As above, without specialist skills and/or post-secondary education (or a large amount of money), you're not likely to get any visa other than a marriage based one. But you can see all of the visa options here and see if you think you may be eligible for any - https://britishexpats.com/wiki/Pulas...ork_in_the_USA. You mention your family helping with money for a passport, so have you actually met your girlfriend in person yet? And the cost will be a lot more than just a passport, so do get saving! Emigrating is expensive unfortunately.

I'll move your thread to the immigration section of the forum for now, if you decide a marriage visa is your only option or the best way to go then let us know and we can move it again to the marriage based visas forum.

HTH, best of luck.

You donโ€™t have a passport yet? Have you met each other in person? That would need to be your first step. Iโ€™m guessing that if you have โ€œbeen together for a yearโ€ you likely have not met in person as COVID had pretty much stopped travel for the past year almost. Unless she lives in the UK at the moment?

you said you have been together for a year, presumably in the UK? And then she went back to the US?

I believe the very young man means he and she have been together as a couple "online" for a year. I assume he is young because 1) he has no money, 2) he has no job skills, 3) he must live with his parents and 4) his online girl has employment.

I'm sorry, sir, but the only at present that I can see for you to get the US is:

1) your parents pay for your university tuition in the US; or

2) you physical met your girlfriend in person and then qualify for her to start the process for you to eventually obtain the K-1 Fiancee Visa.

Without a higher education; sort after job skills or enough money to set up your own company as per USCIS rules, you are staying where you are. Perhaps she would like to come and live in the UK.

He'd have the same problem getting her to the UK: if not married, she'd have to qualify for a Skilled worker visa; or if married he'd have to sponsor her; and he does not have a job, so no income, so he would not qualify under the financial requirements criteria

Two questions for you:
1. Have you met in person yet?
2. Are you ready for marriage?

Not sure why the standard response here is always marriage or nothing.

Post CV19, if your not getting married, and if you donโ€™t have $1-2m to buy a green card , the 2 most obvious options seem like enrolling in a program of study here for an F visa or getting a job as an Au-pair, although they mostly live in with families so you would not be living with your GF. I would go the F route, you say you have no qualifications, and if you want a good life here you will need some anyway. By the end of 2-3 year course you should know if you want to tie the knot and stay or head back home single.

The answer seems absurdly obvious.

F = $$$.

Most people don't have $$$.

To finance a degree in the USA, for a four year international student, the fees for an international student are typically $36,500 per YEAR, or so (Penn State) so have you got access to $180,000 for fees and living expenses ?
