Default Naturalization Interview Cancelled

Hi all,

A friend of mine had his naturalization interview canceled by the Milwaukee USCIS office several months ago. He has a lawyer, but neither of them have received a new interview date. He's getting anxious.

Does anyone have a similar experience to share (even though I know it will have no bearing on his own case). Do you think making an Infopass appointment would give him any info?

Thanks,
Rene

Why was it cancelled?

The cancelation notice said "due to unforseen circumstances".

Seems bizarre that he hasn't heard anything since the cancellation. Not sure why he would need a lawyer for a naturalization application anyway. Has the lawyer checked on his behalf? If not, what is he being paid for? I would definitely recommend he follows up on this soon. I checked online and the processing times for N400 at Milwaukee is 5 months.

He has a problematic case, hence the lawyer. The cancelation isn't due to his immigration problems, though. Yep, he's frustrated with the lawyer. .. he's emailed the lawyer 3 times (once a month since the cancelation), but the answer is always "haven't heard anything yet", which my friend already knows.

His 10 year green card will expire in 8 months, but that shouldn't matter, I think. He remains a PR even if the card expires.

Was just curious how long this might take. I know, how long is a piece of string!

Other than getting a new lawyer...

I'd probably make an Infopass appointment and tell the lawyer the date and time. The case is probably sitting on someone's desk with a post it note saying "reschedule".

All the information given here is third or fourth hand. I have no idea what the lawyer is doing, not doing or even can do.

The office where I am of counsel had a complicated removal defense going which is now up at the Court of Appeals. There is a long pending I-130 which is getting screwed up and we keep birddogging. It turns out that the Dark Forces are lying a lot and have the audacity to accuse us of fraud.

This! It sounds like someone got sick or something so they had to cancel some appointments, and then they forgot to rearrange them.
