Visa for wife's mother in China
Hi,
My wife is from China and is now a permanent resident of the US. We were
married 3 years last November and she came over on a fiancee visa. She would
like to have her mother come over from China to visit. I know I'm supposed
to fill out a form I-134, Affidavit of Support, but I don't know what else
I'm supposed to do. My wife is leaving in a couple of days to visit her in
Beijing for a couple of months. Should I have her bring the form with her?
Is her mother supposed to take the form to the US consulate there? One
possible problem is that I was laid off a couple of months ago, so I can't
list an employer on the affidavit, though I have been getting a little bit
of contract work and expect to be getting a paycheck for this soon. I'm
thinking of listing the company I've been doing the work for on the form,
even though I'm technically not employed there.
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Visa for wife's mother in China
Be prepared for her to be rejected..
Generally, unless she is rich, has a husband, other kids, or a strong
business in China already, she will most likely be rejected.
The fact that your wife is a permanent resident won't help in that
particular matter.
THeir concern is that the mom will come to USA and never return.
Just giving you an honest opinion. This happens to all such cases of
women applying from third world countries (Yes, I am a US citizen, but
originally from a third world country so I know what I am talking
about)
Try your luck, didn't want to discourage you, but I'd say its 50-50
she gets the visa.
