My son has recently moved to Denver and got a new job which has regular hours as opposed to the very irregular hours he had at Home Depot. However, the downside, he is not eligible for any vacation time for the 1st yr whereas at Home depot even though he was part-time he was able to accrue regular vacation and sick time. He young though and actually having weekends to do things means he is not missing the vacation time yet.

I'm struggling with the symbolism here.

I accrue 1 1/4 days PTO a month. That includes sick time. I only get 4 paid bank holidays a year. My company also force us to take 1 day of our PTO for the day after Thanksgiving.

Last company I worked for in the UK, I got 22 days holiday a year, worked 10 hours less per week, twice as many bank holidays and I got paid if I had to call in sick (which was rare).

I miss being able to take the odd day or even week off here and there just to do...nothing. I can't do that here.

At least you are getting paid. My son doesn't get paid for Thanksgiving day or the forced day off he has on Friday. The upside, he is coming down to Austin for the 4 days. Downside of that a 16 hrs drive from Denver

I didn't get any paid vacations when I worked here. My job didn't amount to 40 hours a week, so I got sod all.
In UK I got 6 weeks plus holidays and did 37 hours a week.
