Oh well. Luckily for myself I will have most of the fees ticked off before that date.

I think it will only be removal of conditions and citizenship that will potentially affect me.

Am I seeing this right? It was $340 but now they want to charge $3,035 for the K1 Visa? What if they receive new applications before that date and obviously aren't finished, does that mean people will still only pay for the $340 fee? I just can't believe that hike though. That's a lot of money for people, who are already saving every penny they can for the other costs of emigrating and starting a fresh again in a new country...

I think you must be looking at the wrong column. I-129F goes from $340 to $535.

Effective Date - This rule is effective December 23, 2016. Applications or petitions mailed, postmarked, or otherwise filed on or after December 23, 2016 must include the new fee.

No. The new fee for filing an I-129F will be $535. If you scroll down to Table 1 there is a chart showing old fees and new fees.

And don't forget, these are just USCIS fees. The cost of the actual visa is determined by Department of State, not USCIS.

The N600 fees were already high but are now almost doubling from $600 to $1170. I know they want to recoup the cost of processing applications but this new fee is going to be even more prohibitive for parents of children who derive citizenship through the naturalization of one or more parents. It's now even more attractive to just keep the US passport valid and also add a US passport card which can be used as proof as US citizenship if the passport book needs to be replaced because it has been lost, stolen or damaged.

The document even mentions some comments on this:

"A commenter stated that the Department of State (DOS) processes derivative citizens' requests for passports in substantially the same manner that USCIS processes Forms N-600 and N-600K, yet DOS only charges $120 for a passport book for a child younger than 16 years of age. Other commenters stated that many adopted children automatically derive U.S. citizenship from their parents when they enter the United States, while other children derive U.S. citizenship when their adoptions are completed.[19] Several commenters noted that a passport may be an effective alternative to the certificate for naturalization."

Here is a random thought though... I wonder if anyone will put a purposely incomplete application in the mail so that the check is cashed and they beat the deadline, but then receive an RFE as expected.

It's all I ever had for the last 68 years and I never had a problem with voting or renewing a passport or getting back into the US from travel abroad.
