US Senate pushing biometric ID cards.
Why am I not surprised? Poxy control freak bastards whose only aim is to turn us all into chattels.
I thought REAL ID was meant to fix this - oh, wait, everybody hated it. Anyway, that was to stop terrorism, whereas this is to stop illegal immigration. Mark my words, next it'll be biometric ID cards to stop Global Warming or double parking or something.

Tried to push something like this in the UK... Turned out to be too expensive and impractical.

They won't stop in the UK. You're naiive if you think that's the case.
It's like the DNA database, which has been used to solve 0.03% of crimes.
The government won't give it up, despite the ruling from the EU on its illegality.
It's all about control.
They just ignored the EU ruling, like they ignored a promise for a referendum on Europe.
If they try that here, people will be out on the streets.

What exactly would this include? Call me paranoid, but I would bet that it would include a lot more than many people would want their employers to know.

I am just waiting for the chip under the skin, so I won't have to keep carrying all these bloody cards around.

At the moment it's voluntary for UK citizens, I'm sure soon certain establishments like banks etc will want one for opening accounts, getting mortgages etc. Pretty much it will then be the standard form of ID needed for virtually everything then it will turn compulsory. The government have wasted...sorry spent so much money on it now that I can't see ID cards going the same way of the multi-billion £ NHS computerised system.

I don't understand why they can't enforce the existing employment laws? If e-verify isn't tamper proof, then fix it, and force every employer to participate instead of it being voluntary. And only then, if this doesn't work, should gov't consider spending the kind of money it would take to get a system like this operational.

1. The database which will be both inaccurate and open to misuse by any creepy little bastard who works for the council etc.
2. The requirement to tell the government every time you move house or get a £1000 fine.
3. The fact that (according to Stella Rimington and others) it will be so easy to forge that it'll be a field day for bad guys.
4. Function creep - before you know it, it'll have its claws into everything.
The forehead or the right hand are the preferred locations, apparently...
