Exclamation US Citizenship

HI Guys,

I am going to be eligible for US Citizenship in next couple of months. I'm wondering if I can do my application 3 months in advance! I read few documents on USCIS and looks like I can do it, but want to check with you guys.

Also I want to change my name so can I do it during my citizenship application!

Thanks for your help
Ivan

Default Re: US Citizenship

You can apply 90 days before the 3rd anniversary of when you became a PR, if you are naturalizing based on marriage to a USC. Otherwise it's 5 years as a PR before applying.

So if you became a PR on Jan. 1, 2009, you can apply 90 days before Jan. 1. 2012.

Sorry, I can't answer or advise on the name change question.

Yes you can change your name and you will be asked at the interview if you wish to do so, it is a free service, so think long and hard because its not cheap to change it legally after the fact.

On the N-400, there is a question about changing your name. There is a space where you can write in the new name that you want.

It will become effective on the day you take your oath, if you happen to do it in front of a judge.
