Update GC at 14
My son needs to have a new GC when he turns 14 (which is in August)
Do I need to make an appointment at my local USCIS office to take him for biometrics or can we just show up?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I just Googled "update Green card at 14" and found all the info I need. No I don't know why I didn't do that in the first place. :|

Yes, she does.

Bullet point #4
You must replace your Green Card if:
•You were issued a card valid for 10 years that has either expired or will expire within six months.
•You have a Permanent Resident Card that does not have an expiration date on it.
•Your card has been lost, stolen, or damaged.
•You were issued a card valid for 10 years before you turned 14 years old, and it will not expire before your 16th birthday.

Re: Update GC at 14
I didn't know about the age 14 thing. Thanks for posting! Do they send out reminders or do we have to keep on top of it?
Actually, reading this again and feeling slightly confused.
My daughter got her GC when she was 11. It is valid for 10 years. She is now 14. Should we have renewed it?

Re: Update GC at 14
Ian, I didn't and she is travelling to Europe in early August.
1. Will we have problems renewing it because we are late?
2. Will the new GC arrive before we go?
3.If not, is the notification of renewal sufficient to get her home?

The only thread dealing with this is from 2007. Jerseygirl's daughter had to do it as well as several others on that thread.

Thanks Rene.

I will file for a new card today.
it looks like I can request an i551 stamp for her. My local infopass offices are not showing any vacancies for the next 2 weeks so I guess I just log on at midnight for when the next days' appointments are made available?
