Default UK green card holder living in the US wants to marry in England

I am a UK citizen who lives in the USA and have been here now for six years. Me and my boyfriend who is a US citizen want to go to the UK around Christmas time and get married and then return back to our life in the US. Does anyone know if I need any special visa's to do this or whether you can just go there on vacation, get married and then go back to the US. I want to get married over there as that is where all my family and friends are. Thanks for your advice.

Perhaps you could clarify on what basis you are currently in the US?

No, but I am assuming she is due to to the title of her thread. I may be wrong, it would not be the first time.

You know, I just noticed the title. Perhaps I am being a bit slow this evening. My bad.

Was there something in the news that the visa you used to need is no longer required?

Perhaps you guys want to regroup?
Boiler, as a UK citizen, she does not need a visa to enter the UK for any reason. It does appear that the visit to marry visa might be gone, but I'm not going to read it all now.

OP, there is a "visit to marry" visa that has been required of non-EU citizens who want to marry in the UK. You should visit the UK border agency site for information.

I don't know the exact requirements but I believe that your wife to be will need a visa to get married and there are likely residency requirements. When I got married in the UK a long time ago, we had to be in the UK for 10 days to establish residency.

The following web site may be able to answer that question better.

OP is a female. Perhaps you either didn't notice the little pink icon thingy next to her name, or her picture in her profile (cute! ), or perhaps you think that a man would give himself the username "ladybutterfly". Sexist of me, I know!

Yes, same when I did, also many moons ago. That meant I used all my vacation time establishing residency at my sister's home, got married on Friday, and back to work in NYC Tuesday morning. Very romantic!

My USC OH had been in the UK without me on a work visa for a few months, so I don't know about what visa a USC may need.

I am the original poster and yes, I am indeed female!

I originally came to the US from the UK six years ago on a fiancee visa to marry an American guy. The marriage didnt work out and I am now divorced. I have permanant residency status here and am a greencard holder. I now have a new partner who is a US citizen and as all of my family live back in the UK we thought it would be nice to get married there at xmas time whilst we are on vacation and then go back to our lives in the US. So from my understanding, I need to apply for a tourist marriage visa? Thanks again peeps!

For him -- don't forget to look into establishing residency in the place where you want to be married for you.
