Default UK citizen sponsorship for US job

Hi there.

I am a UK citizen who is currently travelling in US. I leave the US next week and return to my working holiday visa in Australia.

Eventually I would Love to work in United States and stay here. I have met an employer who said that it might be possible to offer me a sponsorship. The work I do is administrative assistance. How easy would it be to get offered sponsorship through doing administration work? And what is the process for this?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to BE.

I’m not sure that the job would qualify for a visa tbh, but you can check all the visa options here and see if you think it would come under any of them - https://britishexpats.com/wiki/Pulas...rk_in_the_USA_

Any of those sound possible? Is the employer aware of the sponsorship process and cost to them?

Thanks for the advice. Yeah i wasn’t sure that job would be in high demand as it is common. Yeah the employer is aware of the costs but not sure if they are aware of the process as I don’t think they have done it before. It’s more of a family friend who owns the business who was trying to help me live the dream by staying out here.

When I am pressing on the link you provided it is just taking me to a blank page.

I have been studying stuff all day and can’t seem to find a way round this.

Thanks

The link as provided by christmasoompa works OK for me.

Admin assistance roles (unless working for very high level executives in specialist roles etc) do not qualify for a visa. Visas are provided for high skilled employees in high demand jobs ; think IT, engineering, finance etc.

Getting a work visa in the US is very difficult unless you have skills that the US needs.

Odd, it’s working for me. It’s a sticky thread though, just click on the ‘read me’ thread above.

It sets out all the visa options in layman’s speak, so should help you figure it out.

I have just went on to the desktop version and the link is working now, thank you! Ah no way, sounds like it is going to me a big hassle for me to stay here. Not good sounds like the easiest option might be through the green card. If anyone has any further advice it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all your help also

What green card option?

You can gain a green card through family/marriage, or employment which will allow you/your employer to petition for a green card for you.

Unless you're referring to the GC lottery, which I believe isn't an option for UK citizens..

Unfortunately I don’t have any close family who are American citizens, so I would need to try get a green card through marriage. Yeah I had seen the GC lottery but noticed it wasn’t for UK citizens. They make it hard for us to be able to live here

Apparently not hard enough. As these forums can testify, there are tens of thousands of Brits living in the US. You just don't have a means to do so.

I wish it was as easy for me as it is was for the rest of them! I have some other friends who I can speak to about possibly sponsoring me. I take it that it isn’t just as simple as me finding a job that is in demand (perhaps landscaping) and being offered a sponsorship. I would need to prove I have done that for a certain amount of time?

Landscaping isn’t a job that will qualify for a visa either. Have another read of the article above, but essentially you need a job that requires specialist skills and a degree (or masters).

And are you in a relationship with a USC right now? You hadn't mentioned that until now.

No way, someone I was with today advised me that landscaping is in high demand out here. I will have another look at the article. Not looking too good, I think I should have stuck in and got better grades at school easiest option may possibly me marriage

Have you read the link that you were given? Unless you are a landscape architect with an advanced degree that is a non-starter. Nothing is easy about getting here. The "rest of them" have worked hard in order to make the move, obtaining degrees relevant to their field and building up a superior resume that made it worthwhile for an employer to expend the necessary money in order to get them on their staff.

Nope, unfortunately I am not in a relationship with a US citizen at this stage, do you need to be in a relationship with them for a certain amount of time before getting married etc?
