UK child born in USA - documents needed?
We are currently living in the US on a working visa. We are both UK nationals and have had a child here. We plan to return to the uk one day and I'm confused as to what documentation our child will need when we return.
We have both US and UK passports for him but do we need to register him as a citizen or get a UK consulate registration of birth? I want to ensure that when we move back he can get into school and get an NHS number. Also his grandmother wants to set him up a UK bank account and has received a flat no becuase his bith certificate isn't british. How can we get around this?
Just want to make sure everything is an easy as it can be for him when we move back.
Thank you so much in advance.

Being born and living in the US is likely to make opening an account for him very tricky, and most likely impossible unless/until he goes to live in the UK. And honestly it is likely to prove problematic for him even if he is living in the UK, if the bank where he is trying to open an account discovers that he is a US citizen whether he is a child or an adult, because of the onerous FBAR reporting requirements placed on banks outside the US to report on US citizens' accounts held outside the US.
Registering his birth will give him something that looks like a British birth certificate, but is going to document that he was born in the US, so any bank can easily note that he is a US citizen, though whether bank employees are sharp enough to notice and to realze that that makes him a US citizen is far from certain, In other words he may be able to fly under the radar.

My dual citizen son opened a bank account in the UK with no issues at all, using his passport. Is this because he is a uni student in the UK? If so, what happens when he finishes his degree and wants to stay? I'm obviously missing something.

Nothing will happen if he is staying in the UK. He's probably OK to keep the account open even if he moves back to the USA. It's opening the account as a non-resident which is tricky

And that then technically, well "actually" actually, would make him the beneficiary of a foreign trust, which has some arcane annual IRS reporting requirements too. …. Not sure what happens if you just plead ignorance and do nothing, for many years.
