Default traveling with 2yr GC expiry so close

Hi Everyone,

My Conditional PR card expires May 20. I have to make an international trip
that puts me returning May 19...with layovers, that might actually be May
20.

My questions are these:

1. Is it stupidly risky to travel so close to that expiry date?
2. I have applied for removal of conditions, but I have not received
anything yet...should I additionally apply for Advance Parole? Does advance
parole work for situations like this?
3. Is it possible to go to my district office and get some kid of extension
stamped in my passport before the 2yr GC actually expires?

What should I do? Please help.

Thanks.

Dean.

No, it should be fine. The day you return, even if it's the 20th, the card is still valid.

If you're a CPR, you don't need AP... at any rate, it may take a while to get it so there's no advantage for you at this point in time.

You should be able to make an infopass appointment to get an extension stamp. Be sure to bring proof that you've filed for removal of conditions.

Hi:

You don't need AP.

The expired I-551 card is a valid boarding document.

In the case of any visa or document, you have to BEGIN continuous travel to the US from the country of orgin.

If you remember that most travel to the US used to be by SHIP, this rule makes sense. There is an old case of a situation where somebody waited until the last minute and took a flight from their home city to catch a connection in the capitial of the same country which had three times a week air service to the US. The person lost because it was the departure from the COUNTRY that counted not the home city.

You will probably get your extension letter before you leave. We sent
my DH's removal of conditions application letter (To VSC) about 4 weeks
before his expiration date and the extension came in about 3 weeks.

Thanks for your responses.

I sent my 751 packet to the national service center in Nebraska. Is there a
receipt notice type thing I should expect shortly, or will they just extend
my status and notify me? Typically how long will teh status be extended?

I assume there will be anohter in-person interview. Any idea when?

Thanks again.

I just noticed that the INS cashed the check I sent with my I-751. I'm
hoping that means I will hear from them shortly with some kind of receipt
notification...

Here's hoping.
