Default TN1 - How to renew through the mail?

Mine runs out July 17 and I understand I can wait, technically, until the 16th for
INS to get my re-application and they auto-extend for 3 months while they figure it
out. Is this the case? I was aiming on probably a June application but since it can
take up to 90 days I wanted to be sure that I didn't have to apply _now_.

Your I-129, and the paperwork associated (letter from employer like initial TN
letter, with a para justifying the extension) must *arrive* with the INS Northern
Service Center, Lincoln NE before July 17.

In spite of the instructions often included with the I-129, you MUST send your
application to the INS Northern Service Center in Lincoln NE, and NOT to the service
center for where you are living.

DONT SEND ORIGINAL I-94 OR OTHER PERSONAL DOCUMENTS Send photocopies of the front and
back of the I-94 and other documents.

Keep copies of everything you send.

You have about 240 days while they make up their mind.

Thanks, Stuart. Good help as always

A last question and I'm not sure if you or anybody would know - when you re-apply for
a TN through the mail do they compare your renewal documents to the old ones for
consistency in job description and what not, or do they not bother looking at the old
stuff at all?

I can't say for certain whether they do, but I believe they have the ability to do
it. I think a lot depends on what whether there's some reason they feel the need to
do it. I don't believe it's done routinely, because then we'd expect to see lots more
rejections and RFEs.
