Default TN Visa for Canadians ?

hi ,
in the postion of now working in the US next summer providing I can sort my own Canadian TN Visa. Not sure where to post this thread but does anyone have a route for self employed folks ? Would it just be a case of having a formal job offer and then showing this at the border with other security papers ?

As this is a question about a US visa, I'll move your thread to the correct forum.

But yes, you need a job offer (note self employment isn't permitted, you must have an employer), in one of the eligible occupations - https://www.nafsa.org/_/file/_/amresource/8cfr2146.htm

Hopefully the US forum pros will be able to help further.

Good luck.

You are going to give yourself a formal job offer?

No . Sorry let me re-word . I’m a contractor for my own Ltd. My US client who I provide services for says I can now work in the USA if required.

Sadly it is the US Government that determines if you can work in the US, not your Customer.

But they’ll give you a job and employment contract? What job is it?

Hmm Ok trying again , let’s make this easier.

who does the letter I take to the border (which has my NAFTA services info etc) along with my refs /certifications etc..

1. end client (US Corp) ?
2 or the agency who I provide my services through eg Manpower /ranstad.
3. Does it matter who does the letter from
the options above if both are US?

thanks !

I have no experience with TN visas, but in general, I have found the best 1st place to look to be the USCIS website:
https://www.uscis.gov/working-united...-professionals

"You have a prearranged full-time or part-time job with a U.S. employer " so if Manpower /ranstad are going to be your employer and are U.S it seems like they would be who provides the letter. The client would be theirs, not yours. If these are large companies they likely have HR/legal departments that have experience with the process already. It seems strange that you would have your own Ltd facing the employer, as that would imply you are not an employee, more like a vendor providing services.

Your future employer (employer's lawyer if available) normally does the letter.
