Hello all-

My wife received her temporary I-551 stamp in her passport in August of 2000. How
long is this stamp good for and how long until she receives her permanent Resident
Alien Card?

Thanks

Bill

It tells you right on the stamp. It is good for one year. If you don't get your card
before it expires, go back to the INS office and have another stamp put into the
passport. Length of time for the greencard depends on the area of the country you
live in. VSC makes them and sends them out usually within 90 days of receipt from the
local INS. If you used them you can send a inquiry via the official form on the INS
website. But don't expect a quick answer. We are waiting almost sixty days for an
answer and still nothing.
