Default Tax return federal/state/local

Our elder son has his immigrant visa interview at the end of June and will need to take along a copy of our most recent tax return. Does he only need the federal tax return or does he need the state and local ones too?

He's going for an immediate relative visa? If so, doesn't he require an I-864 affidavit of support from you? That form requires federal tax returns ... tax transcripts are better and can be ordered from the IRS and takes about 10 days to get, as well as other financial documentation.

You can download them instantly from the website. However, maybe when you first register on the website it might take days/weeks - I can't remember if it was the IRS or another government website that insist on sending you dead tree when you first sign up.

He's going for the EB1 derivative. We have all the other paperwork completed, they've accepted the returns we could already submit.
