Default success (well kinda) in Dallas - EAD / SSN

Hello
After waiting for over 3 months for my EAD I read about interim EAD
post from Trunk. So I decided to try my luck and go to Dallas INS.
BTW the receipt I got from them said NOT to inquire (in bold letters)
about EAD until 4 months pass. And from what I heard now they even
send receipts that state 6 months wait period. So I arrived to INS
office at 4am Friday morning and joined already considerable line.
After 3 hours of waiting at 7am I finnaly got in only to be told that
because of some construction work they are closing early and can't
help me in any way. I was told to come back on tuesday...So one
sleepless night wasted waiting in dark.
Today I tried my luck once again, arriving at 4am. This time it took
even longer to get in, some people were cutting line which led to
some trouble. After I got in I got my number and rather quickly was
called to the window. I was helped by VERY NICE gentleman, who was
very helpful, with nice approach and he was even funny. That can't be
said about the rest of the employees I told him about waiting over
90 days for EAD and he said he'll take a look at it. While looking up
my case in computer he was saying things like "hmm" "i wonder why
this is showing up" "i cant see anything "HMM". So i knew (but was not
really surprised) that something went wrong. It turned out that they
were not processing my EAD at all...It just somehow got stuck in
black hole of INS. Should I wait like their receipt ordered I could
wait forever. The guy was very nice and he gave me I-765 form to
fill, he also fixed my address that was screwed up in their computer.
After that and another wait I was called to door where they process
EAD. There I had to wait for about an hour because they were
processing appoitment people first. Finaly my time came
and I went in. I signed EAD card, put fingerprint on it, they took my
picture and in 5 minutes I was walking away with my prescious new
EAD. It is valid for 1 year. Unfortunately things were not that great
after that. I drove to Social Security Office to apply for SSN. After
waiting in yet ANOTHER looong line I was told that they need to
verify my employment authorization and it will take 6-8 weeks !!!! How
on earth can it take 8 weeks to make one phone call to INS ?
Nevermind that I showed them my EAD card which is not easily
forged. Please someone tell me there is some way to get my SSN sooner
!!! I need to start working, i need drivers license and my wife needs
it to file taxes ! It's been over 7 months since our wedding and I
still can't work
gulo

BTW I applied for AOS from overstayed tourist visa
Receipt from dallas 12/3/02
fingerprints taken 2/19/03
