It's the same as someone on an H1B that gets terminated. Your purpose for being in the US is gone, you're gone.
Any reasonable person can see why this is a reckless decision to enforce on a student with no warning.

I can completely understanding why new F-1s are not being issued, but kicking kids out of the country because they can't turn upto class due to a temporary health crisis is cruelty personified. It is hardly like these individuals are going to be a drain on the economy whilst hanging around doing online classes.

I suppose there's a point where this is a political belief more than anything else, but for me this is absolutely no bueno and achieves absolutely nothing outside of alienating high achievers.

I suppose everything is temporary, including studies of however long, not sure this will change much in the foreseeable future.

I would have thought most students would head home, I can see there may be exceptional cases where that is not logical.
