Default stolen passport

hi. this isn't my personal situation, but somebody I know got their passport (with visa) stolen whilst being back in the UK. Its a messy situation obviously, my question is, the spouse (who seems totally unaware that she could also be affected) and kids with derivative visas remained in USA, will their visas also need replacing?

In principle, there should be no difference between them returning to the US on an existing passport and visa, and them returning to the US on a new passport and visa of the same type. In both cases, the question about dependents' status during the time the principal is abroad is a gray area, but generally ignored if the principal is not abroad for too long.
