Dear Sir and Madam, My friend enterd US on Jan. 03 2002. INS officer put orange-color
stamp on her I-94 with J1 and D/S. But stamp show "Jan. 03 2001". Are there any
problem? Many people had increct stamp atleast Jan. 01 to Jan.
03.(I guess)

This is more common that one thinks, especially if the Inspector was off duty on the
1st and 2nd. The J-1 class with D/S means Duration of Status so the expiration date
of the I-94 is not an issue. I would advise your friend to maintain secondary
evidence of the correct travel date (tickets, boarding pass etc.). The computers at
the port of entry should have picked up the correct date.
Good Luck
