SSN still not arrived - IR1 visa "activated" end of May 2011

Hi all

So i entered the US on my IR1 visa end of May. I am currently back in the UK for a short time but i'm just wondering - my SSN/card has still not come through yet, and i specifically checked the box saying i wanted one sent out when completing my I-130 paperwork. It's now been approx 9 weeks since i entered the US on the IR1 visa, and still no SSN.

Can anyone please let me know if this is a "normal" amount of time to wait? Feels like it's too long. My laminated "greencard" came through about 4 weeks after the entry in May. .

Thanks all

It is not uncommon for the checkbox procedure failing to generate the SSN record. You may want to check with the SSA. I would not be surprised if you can do this through the "ACS" section of the Embassy. [I know, I know -- you are not an "AC" -- but that is where the overseas interface with US agencies is often accomplished.].

BTW, the term "activated" is one I find strange. You used the visa and were admitted to lawful permanent residence. The process actually invalidated the visa.

Thanks Mr F, will look into that. It does appear something has gone awry in my app (and from research, it looks like it's not an uncommon issue).

I know, the term "activation" is not technically correct parlence, but it's a habit i've picked up since the start of this process - will look to change my ways when referring to the process going forward ;)

Thanks for the help :)
