Default Ssn

I did not apply for an SSN before I got married as I wanted to do it in my married name!!!!
Well I had no trouble getting it at all !!!!! The woman that dealt with it was an immigrant her self so it helped!!!
I just handed her all the details and she called INS,I was on their records so she processed it and told me I should get the card within 2 weeks!!!!
Also I was led to believe my daughter being a K2 could not get a SSN until we filed for EAD???
Well she processed her's too,She will have her card within 2 weeks also.
Just thought I would let you all know,For the women it dosn't matter if you get it before or after your married!!!
Plus if you have K2's they can get one too!!!!

Well you most definitely found an employee who bent the rules just for you.

Your daughter is not entitled to a Social Security card under a K-2. Nor are you since you are married. The fact that she took your application does not make you home free quite yet. But if you are, congratulations and ...

may other posters not take your experience as gospel truth, because it is not.

Ok,Now I'm confused???????????
Why would I not be able to get one???????
My Daughter was put down as not allowed to work,So we thought that explained it, As she is 18 and needs it for a Drivers license and health care!!!!!
Surly I would need one for the same reasons?????? Although she did write it down as allowed to work with INS approval!!!!

I can only quote you what an SSA employee has told the newsgroup and the experiences of others have confirmed. You can read two such posts at:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...f8bb51e&rnum=4

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=K-...ols.com&rnum=3

Or the SSN experiences on the NGs pages at:

Rete, I am confused by your statement. I was on the SSA website today and it clearly states, “The K-1 symbol on your immigration document means you are the fiance of a US citizen and are authorized to work. It then goes on to describe how to apply for a Social Security Number. If Sal entered on a K-1 visa and waited until after the marriage to apply for her SSN, how is she not entitled? The SSA issues three types of Social Security cards depending on an individual's citizen or non-citizen status and whether or not a non-citizen is authorized by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to work in the United States.

I agree. Not only that, but until the child needs/wants to work, there
is no need for a SSN.

In the cases you described above, a ITIN should suffice.

What does this have to do with the K-2 immigrant being entitled?
The SSN issue being discussed is about the child, not the K-1 immigrant.
