sponsoring chinese visa student for green card
Hello,
I am new here and would like some advice on sponsoring a visa student from
china for a green card. Is it possible? If so, what kind of procedures
do I need to do? Please help.
Thanks,
Al

You don't give enough information to give you a reliable answer. I would
like to point you to my FAQ site at http://www.kkeane.com which covers an
introduction to many aspects of the US immigration system.
But I can tell you one thing: in order to sponsor somebody for a Green Card,
you must have a qualifying relationship - either be a close relative, or an
employer. Even if you do, the process can take up to 25 years, depending on
which category the applicant would fall into.
So, in order to help you, how is this student related to you?

She is my girlfriend but I'm not ready for marriage. Is there another way
besides marriage?

Re: sponsoring chinese visa student for green card
Unfortunately, most likely not. As long as you are genuinely planning a
long-term relationship, it is perfectly OK to marry just for the
immigration benefits. Many people have a secret private wedding just for
the legal papers, and later have a big family ceremony whenever they are
ready.
Note that it would be illegal if immigration was the only reason you
married. But if immigration is just the reason for the timing, there is no
problem.
