hello all,
this is my first post, and i hope someone can help me. my fiancé and i filed for a k1 in mid september. i just want to be prepared for everything, and i am wondering if i will have any problems: 5 years ago i was caught shoplifting in germany (my home country). the police was there, and everything, allthough it was only a minor case (makeup). my question: will i have to admit to this in my interview(s) some time later? will it show in the police record that i will have to get? (i already had to get the normal-type report for my workplace right now, but apparently there is an extended, more detailed, report. is that the one that i will have to get for the consulate in FRA?). this is a long time ago and has nothing to do with my present. it would be bad if it caused any problems for me, therefore, i would rather not like to admit to it in any interview. möhrchen |
hello Moerchen,
i cant say definitely whether it wil show on a police check, although it seems likely. You dont say whether you were arrested, charged and coinvicted or simply warned. In general, it is much better to be honest with the INS about these matters, there are some links on the Doc Steen site which talk about criminal matters (sorry.. dont have the URL handy). Failing to mention criminal charges which later show on a criminal record check could cause you far more problems than the charge itself. Hi Moehrchen, Before your interview, you will have a 'police check' done. There will
be a search on your name (sometimes fingerprinting). You said that the police 'registered' you. So it might be best to be upfront and let the consulate know. By being honest with them it will show that you are not hiding anything or have a hidden agenda and truly just want to be with your significant other. Best of Luck :) Reid ------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > > |
I was caught for the same thing (twice actually..i'm a hopeless thief). Police were called , once I was taken to the police station for questioning.
I had a police check a few weeks ago and it was completely clear. So that was a nice surprise. I was told only things show up if you were convicted, not just charged. |

The person at the Meldeamt there said to me that he thinks that for a visa, this "einfache P.F. would be enough, but he wasn't sure. Thanks for your help. I am probably just too worried. Grüsse, Möhrchen. |
