A student visa would be an option, but you can’t stay permanently on that so depends on your long term aim really. I’m not sure what you’re reading about an immigrant visa ‘(‘green card’) application after 60 days but don’t think it’s correct!
yes positive, B1 Visa for transit or travel to the ocs for wind activities. We are basically doing the surveys for the wind farm just off Long island.

If you are waiting to board a ship in order to undertake a site survey - which is working by the sounds of it, then are you sure you have a B/1?
Honestly iv read so much and honestly cant remember where I read this. I'm just looking for a path I can take and the steps involved.

Try the oil and gas companies in Texas - your expertise should fit in with them. Alternatively academia ??

As said, if you found a job in UK with company who has offices in US, a transfer would be easiest way to to.

Cant believe how quickly I'm getting replies I'm not usually one for joining threads so thank you all.
Sorry but most of the Texas Oil and Gas Companies are fighting to stay open right now. This is a bad time for the industry!

- In order to live and work in the US, you need to obtain a work visa sponsored by the prospective employer. (have you approached your current employer for opportunities?)
OR
- you could marry a US citizen
OR
- you could get a student visa, get another degree and while studying do your networking in the US (very expensive option)

Ill need to look more into it though as there is much to go through with the paperwork he has given me.

The B1 visa doesn't do anything it just shows credibility as I have a higher security clearance than the average joe.

From what i have read and understand at the moment is that I can apply for a green card however i should wait until I have been in the country for more than 60 days.

This is going to be a long process but ill get there in the end
I am not aware of any security clearance requirements for a B1, just the same questions about criminal record like all US visas and ESTA. Is the visa a B1 in lieu of H1b ?

How close to shore do you work? I assume the visa requirement only extends to territorial waters which I think is 12 nautical miles.... I remember a plan to house Indian tech engineers offshore from SF:

The paths are all outlined in the Wiki link I gave you above, which of those did you think you may qualify for?

The election may have a bearing on your chances too. My husband also works in energy, his company are looking to invest over a billion pounds in renewable energy, and hire hundreds of people……….but only if Biden gets in! So you may find you have a lot more renewable energy opportunities, and therefore employers prepared to sponsor, if Bidens wins rather than Trump.

Best of luck to you.

Well my best path so far seems to be job sponsorship. I have already contacted several companies hiring and been asked to send me resume to a few of them so i can only wait and see what happens in the near future.

SanDiego Girl - Marriage wouldn't be an option at this stage i would need to meet the love of my life lol.
Sponsorship looks like my best route at the moment and with my CV and qualifications it hopefully shouldn't take too long. (Praying)

Just to set expectation, I am surrounded by literally thousands of people in your shoes who have been out of work for months at Houston’s oil refineries. Odds are stacked against you big time I’m afraid!

I’m currently in the Virgin Islands and one of the biggest refineries in the world here has zero jobs.

I'm not really expecting much right away to be honest but need to start somewhere.

For a Brit, outside of marriage, job sponsorship will be your most likely option, but don’t bank on it being fast, from deciding to move here to being here with a visa was almost 10 years for me, your already have your masters and experience, so that could save you time. You should check out all the different requirements and restrictions here: https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...ategories.html

If you plan to stay her longer term you also need to come up with a plan that will lead to a green card while you are here on the visa as well.

The devil is in the detail, for an L you need to have worked for a parent or subsidiary of a US based firm outside the US for 1 year before applying. For an H1b it’s a lottery.. and has a wait even if your selected, which is maybe a 1/4 chance each year, for an O you need a lot of external verification of your excellence.. etc

You also need an employer who is willing and able to sponsor you and I’m some cases needs to “prove” there are no USC/PR who can fill the role.

How does your M.Eng help your current job ? Maybe think back to the basics of that, rather than the geo-survey stuff.
Have you got any published papers ? They help too.
Also, professional institution membership was useful for my O1 visa. I am an FIET. The attorneys were very impressed with that.

Plenty of jobs in the Electronics side of engineering even now - particularly if you have any relevant software programming experience. The problem will be finding a U.S. sponsor for an H-1B visa or finding a suitable job in the UK and transferring after a year on an L-1.
Regardless, you are head and shoulders above most because you have a Master's in a STEM subject (with experience in that field, I presume) that has great employment potential in the U.S.
Agree with other responses - your current B-1 won't do anything for you. It's as good as an ESTA entry + WB stamp in your passport.
