Resident Card expired--can I return to the US w/out trouble

Hello everyone,

I am married to a US citizen and got my Conditional Resident Card February 1999. I
submitted form I-751 along with other documents in time February 2001. In March, INS
sent back my papers with the remark that I would not have conditional residency.

Since my card obviously expired in February, I immediately sent another letter to INS
in March with the question for an explanation and how I would have to proceed now.
What status do I have now?

Next week I will have to travel unexpectedly to Peru for 10 days. I assume I'll be in
trouble when I come back and my card is expired. Can I get in a few days advance
parole, or do I have to ask for something else. I also still have my valid german
passport. But it is probably illegal to enter as a tourist once you are a resident...

I appreciate any ideas/help!!!! Claudia

HI Claudia,

THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED TO BE LEGAL ADVICE. I AM NOT A LAWYER. I DON'T EVEN PLAY
ONE ON TV!

I don't understand your comment that "...In March, INS sent back my papers with the
remark that I would not have conditional residency." Please elaborate on this a bit.
Could you quote the letter from INS?
