Default Request for Status Information Letter

Hi All

I sent a request in the mail to get Status Information Letter from the selective service because I am going to apply for the citizenship soon . I never heard anything from them since I sent it 4 months ago . I filled in the form and attached a copy from my green card and a letter from the university that I was in a student visa and the green card shows that I got my residency when I was over 26 years old .

Do I need this letter to prove for the USCIS interviewer that I am exempted from the selective service ? any idea how long does it take to get it ?

Thanks

I got one from SSS some time back but don't remember exactly how long it took. I don't remember it taking 4 months though. I had mine with me during my interview but didn't volunteer it at first. When the interviewer started asking questions about my answer to the question in the N-400, I told her I had a letter from SSS saying I didn't have to register. She made a copy of that letter and was satisfied with that.

Were you on a F-1 up until you were 26? If not and you were pending AOS, you were required to register with the SS. F-1's are not required to do so but pending adjusters are.
