To my knowledge, you can use "Brickley" as her main family name on the I-751, so that her green card will reflect that as her name. Put "Zhang" in the other names used area.

Since her passport will still be under Zhang, if she travels internationally, make sure the tickets are purchased under the name of Zhang, to match her passport. She might want to also carry a photocopy of the marriage certificate to show why her name is different on the documents, if they see both her passport and green card.

Alright, I'll try that. I can get certified copies of our marriage certificate by the carload. They run about $15 each, but I think they may give me the bulk discount by now.

She does travel internationally, (Back and forth to China), and I certainly don't want any problems for her getting back in.

Side note...

Her best friend, who got her citizenship a year 1/2 ago, ran into the single entry issue when she came over back in 2000. She and her husband went on a trip out of the country and she was denied re-entry. It took them almost a year to get it sorted out, all because there was nothing on the visa saying it was single entry only.

Now for the last questions.

1) Standard check, Postal money order or Certified check from my bank?

2) FedEx, UPS, USPS or USPS return receipt?

Now to decrypt the above:

I forget what the standard method of acceptable payment is.

And which is the most efficient way to send the forms to Vermont? (Perhaps by presidential bandwagon??)

I'm now happily burning through ink cartridges again. Not suprisingly, the tax returns are the biggest pile.

1. We used a personal check.

2. We used USPS, certified mail, return receipt requested.

Worked great for us!

Great.

So we need to get some new pictures, Passport size taken. Since my wife's day off is Monday, we'll do it then. She likes the ones we had taken here for her passport renewal last summer. The originals done in China made her look like a secret policeman.

I have images of her green card and social insecurity card I can print out. The form is done and just needs to be signed, and it looks like my wife is getting a tax refund.

I also have a photocopy of the marriage certificate and I put together a nice montage of pictures. (Several nice shots of her with my family)

We should be good to go. I'm aiming for next weekend for submission.

Double check on the photos. Not needed as they will send her a letter with the appointment for biometrics which will be the picture used on the new card.

I agree, when we did ours in April 2007, no passport-style photos were required.

Removing Conditions - New Biometrics Process for Conditional Permanent Residents
February 28, 2007

New Biometrics Process for Conditional Permanent Residents

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announces the implementation of a new nationwide biometrics process for conditional permanent residents who file Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence. The new process is effective immediately. Under the old process, following the approval of Form I-751, an approval notice was issued instructing the applicant to appear at a USCIS District Office for processing of his or her Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (“Green Card”). The approved applicant would manually submit passport-style photographs, index fingerprints, and a signature on Form I-89, I-551 or I-586 Card Data Collection Form, for creation of his or her permanent resident card.

The new process, as authorized in 71 Federal Register 15469 (March 28, 2006), requires all conditional permanent residents to appear at a USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) after filing Form I-751 in order to have their biometrics electronically captured.

An ASC appointment notice will automatically be sent by mail to the applicant with the specific date, time and location for biometric processing. Biometric processing includes the electronic capture of an applicant’s photograph, signature, index fingerprint and ten-print fingerprints. The photograph, signature and index fingerprint are used to generate the lawful permanent resident card, if the Form I-751 is approved. The ten-print fingerprints are captured for the purpose of conducting a criminal background check and are processed for applicants between the ages of 14 and 79.
Applicants (except for “overseas applicants” described below) will no longer be required to submit passport style photographs, since photographs will be captured at an ASC. (more)

Huh, how about that? So when did they give up their quill pens again?

Automobiles? Now why would I want to use something so primitive as that? Nope, I just call my transportation specialist, Scotty, and have him beam us up to the Manchester office.

As to the refund, I'm still working on the taxes. I haven't gotten my W2's yet, (Joy, I'll be getting three of them, 2 contracts and unemployment)

I haven't listed all the deductions yet. I took a couple of losses on my stuck portfolios, then there's the interest on the mortgage, property taxes, HSA, etc. etc. etc.

I'm hoping for a nice refund this year. Lord knows, the Feds love their interest free loans each year! :curse:

Well, the paperwork went in last week. According to the USPS tracking number it has reached the VT center and is no doubt sitting in a closet with 18 million other assorted envelops.

So where is the pool on when everything is completed? I'll put $10 on 6 months!! :curse:

Post Re: Removal of Conditions forms

Well, guess what was in my mail today? The packet I sent in for my wife, with a nice blue piece of paper. It seems I forgot to sign the check! :curse:

Well it's an easy fix and I can send it back out tomorrow. I wonder if I should include the original application, which has USCIS red pen marks all over it, or if I should just print out a new copy and have my wife sign it?

The former would be less painful then the latter, in that I won't have to tell her I screwed up and she won't hit me.

Seriously, should I print out a clean copy or resubmit the one with the annotations on it?

I would re-submit the same thing they sent you, with a note on it that you are returning everything intact, and the check is now signed.
