Default Question Regarding Oath

Hi Experts,

I went through the oral exam about American history on May 27, 2004 for my
US citizenship. The officer said that I have passed the exam however, I have
to come again for oath. He also said that I will receive a letter requesting
to come for oath in a couple of months. I have not received any letter so
far. My question is that is it normal to have a delayed oath. Usually I have
heard people taking oath at the same time as their test.

Just for the reference, I am female of Pakistani origin. My husband is US
citizen and my three kids are born in USA. I appeared for citizenship
interview in NJ.

Thanks for your response.

Sameen.

It is perfectly normal to wait for oath for several months after the interview. In fact, it is the case most of the time. It is relatively rare these days to take oath at the time of the interview.

Did you receive a congratulation letter and application for passport after the interview? If yes, I would say you should receive your oath letter within the next month. Nothing to worry about. I'm also waiting for my oath (passed interview on Jun 24) that most likely will be delayed by a background check...

I passed it last December.

No, I've not heard anything either, except for another fingerprint notice.
The officer told me it would be two or three months too, but it might be
longer because they have to do more background checks than they used to.
So, I figure, maybe it's these extra background checks that are slowing
them down.
