Dear gurus:

I like to buy a small business in USA, like a corner shop, restaurant etc,
then work with my own business there. Do you guys know what kind of visa
should I obtain?

Thanks

Jim

Won't work. Of course you can buy any business you like, but it would be next to
impossible to get a work visa for it. The only other option, an Investor-based
Greencard, requires an investment of $1M, and the business has to employ a certain
number of Americans.

Regarding the url link below, you can get an E-2 Visa (Treaty Investor) for an
investment of $100k in a restaurant. http://www.franceservice.com/visas/visae2.shtml
It requires a Treaty between the country you come from and the US, and maybe an
amount of money for the Consul

And if you believe that you're foolish .. and suggesting you bribe consuls is
ridiculous.

This is likely a scam. Look at E visa information from an immigration attorney with
credibility like www.shusterman.com, or www.grasmick.com (especially if you're
Canadian).

Sorry, but I have nothing to sell. You can find E-2 visa requirements on the INS
website : http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/se...rd.htm#anchorE
The following is the investment requirement : "The investment is substantial, i.e.
sufficient to ensure the investor's financial commitment to the successful operation
of the enterprise and big enough to support the likelihood that the investor will
successfully direct and develop the enterprise;"

I don't understand english very well, but I don't think it means an investment of
$1M. The investment must be sufficient to establish or purchase a viable
business,i.e, it depends on the type of business.

http://www.travel.state.gov/visa;treatytraders.html looks another INS website,
http://www.investorvisausa.com/index.html have a detailed information from an
American Visa Consultant.

All of them are written in English.

After a quick search, I think you're speaking about the EB-5 visa which requires
    >
in a "targeted employment area," which is an area that has experienced
unemployment of at least 150 per cent of the national average rate or a rural
area as designated by OMB."

But it's not the same visa (EB-5 or investor visa) and I was speaking about E-2 visa
(treaty investor visa).

An E-2 visa still requires a significant investment. Your chances of success in a
business with only $100,000 are quite slim, even for a restaurant, and the INS
knows this.

I am not looking at the EB5 btw.
