Default Question About I-693, Please Help

Hi guys and gals, My wife will be arriving to the USA soon on a K-3
visa. I need to know that do I have to file an I-693 which is a
medical examiniation form with that? Because on the INS website it is
listed as one of the requirements for Family-Based Applications for
Immediate Relatives. And, does the I-130 have to be approved in order
to file I-485? I would really appreciate if anyone can clarrify this.
Thanks.

Hi:

The I-693 is completed by the examining doctor. The approved doctors usually have the form in stock.

In my opinion. you need NOT have the approved I-130 -- you should be abble to file your AOS and have the local district retrieve the pending I-130.

However, that is MY opinion and the Los Angeles Office of INS happens to disagree with it. It isn't worth it to "fight City Hall" on this issue, so we just file a SECOND I-130 concurrent with the new AOS. Its just a few forms and an extra $130.00 -- well worth it IMHO.

Why does she need another I-693? She had one for the completion of the K-3. Is another medical required so soon after having just had one in the foreign country?

That's what I mean Rete, why would she have to go through a medical
exam after arriving to the US on a K-3. Because she would have already
gone through the medical exam at her country where the US embassy
requires all the K-3 visa applicants to take the required medical
examination before coming to the interview.
