British Expats - Question about applying I485 and H1 at same time

Hello, I am on H1 visa and applying for I485 along with EAD and AP. My wife is on H4
visa but she is going to apply for H1 (first time) since she has found a job. My
questions are:

1. Since it takes about 3-31/2 months for H1 visa, can I apply for EAD also for my
wife (little quicker than H1) with my application for I485.
2. Can we apply for both - H1 and EAD at the same time or not?
