Punishment for working on VWP
This is theoretical. If a DJ from a VWP country came to the US and had a few paying gigs, this would be illegal. If ICE found out about this, what sort of bans would apply. I am assuming this person left the US and any ban would happen when they tried to come back. Thanks

Musicians fall into an iffy category. I know a LOT of folks from VWP countries who have come over to perform -- remember, the criteria is NOT JUST whether you get paid, it's whether the job would NORMALLY be paid or not. They play SXSW (major music festival covered around the world) on VWP visas!
Getting the proper performer's visa is a major, major PITA and even then immigration have been known to turn back bands on a whim. For this reason, even going into Canada for gigs has become problematic on a North American tour if they plan to re-enter the US before heading home.
Is the DJ of a high enough professional calibre to be a member or contact the BPI? They are at www.bpi.co.uk and actually do respond to email.
amy, who's just heard a rant from a musician from NI in a well-known band who keeps getting subjected to secondary inspection. no body cavity searches yet, but everything else!

Canada seems to be a major problem (even WITH the proper visas)....you
really need the proper agent *who knows the law* that has contacts at
the embassies that can secure the proper visas with no problems. A
friend of hb does such tours sevral times a year and it seems when he
gets to the Canadian border, they ALL get pulled over for secondaries!
