Process from H1b to green card

If a person is on h1b for 6 months and starting the process of green card, normally speaking when will he be able to get his green card. (with a masters degree). I know the time frame can vary a lot but whats the average. Also is it ok if their is a break in between getting ur paychecks(bench policy etc), will the INS deny the application just because u didnt recieve ur pay check for say 6 months in 24-25 months he has been on h1b.

Sorry, there is no average. With a master's degree, you will need labor
certification, probably. The permanent resident process will probably take
from 3 to 6 years, depending on several variables.

Even if there was such a break, you can probably get permanent resident
status eventually. There may be some problems that must be dealt with. It
goes without saying that you need a competent immigration attorney to handle
your case.
