Police CErtificate in Canada

In Canada there are two types of police certificates, one is name check
based and other is finger print based. I will need to get one in
Canada since I lived there for more than 6 months. Which one will I
need for consular interview (family based immigration) in Manila,
Philippines, name check based or finger print based?

Actually there's only one: the name check based Police certificate

But if the certificate comes up with something on it only then you would have to do another one with your fingerprint to either confirm or disprove your identity accordingly.

This is what I have been told by the guy who did mine in Montreal.

hope it helps!

Cheers!

Actually there are two. The OP only needs the name check unless the US Consulate in Manila and/or the RCMP requires the fingerprint check. For Canadian service men who have served outside of Canada, the fingerprint clearance is required as it is also checked with Interpol so that their clearance will include all of the countries they have been assigned to during their years of service.

Check with the Canadian Consulate on whom you should contact at the RCMP for the clearance certificate.

So you Kebekoi and Rete agree that only name check based police
certificate is required?
