FCO is The Foreign and Commonwealth Office. They are responsible for issuing passports outside of the UK.

Passports issued in the UK are the responsibility of the Identity and Passport Service (IPS), an executive agency of the Home Office.

Quick question concerning British Passports? Mine ran out ummmmm almost ten years ago, how much of a pain would it be to get it renewed? Is there a web site that gives info on this? Wasn't aware that I could do it from the US, but I am happy to hear that I can :-)
thanx, Kim x

I have a Brit friend in Canada, she sent her passport renewal to DC, she said it was about 2 weeks for her, not sure when she did it, but I'm guessing it wasn't a busy travel time
I know it takes much longer than that in the UK!
