Default Pakistan common name check

Hi,

I applied on L1-B Visa sponsored by my employer. Got Notice of Action
and applied for the Visa along with my Wife and 3 months old son.
Interview date: January 13, 2006
Visa Officer told me that because i have a common name so they will
require clearance from Washington and it will take around 6-8 weeks.
I sent an email to the embassy on March 14, 2006 and got a reply that
it is in process of Administrative Processing and they cannot predict
any date.
Now it has been more than 3 months.
I am totally confused about when I will be able to get my Visa.
Are they checking only my name or checking my family names as well?
I am intrested to know similar cases and duration it took to differnt
applicants. Also is there any way i can know the status calling FBI or
any other state office in US? Can a lawyer do anything regarding
follow-up?

Thanks,
Adeel Ahmad

A few months seems usual, a few years in exceptional cases.

And there is not anything you can do to speed it up.

Something to do with you got a 'hit' and they need to check it through.

Hi Adeel,

It's very common for Pakistani males to have additional admin processing after a visa interview. I know for marriage-based cases, the admin review can take several months, and sometimes up to a year. There's really no way of knowing or checking on it.

Can happen to British males too... My son has been waiting over a year now.

Hi, I'm sorry to be asking a question instead of posting a helpful
reply. I am going to renew my visa and concerned about being able to
travel to other countries while waiting for the clearance check. Is the
embassy currently holding your passport while you're waiting for the
clearance? Are you free to travel to other countries besides the US?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Your post is confusing - what visa - where are you - where are you trying to travel.

Also, PLEASE start a new thread - butting in on somebody else's gets very confusing...

To continue my old thread.
Today i received a call from embassy after 3.5 months that they need
information of addresses i have lived for last 6 years or so. I just
sent them with the addresses plus from to dates through email and fax.

Now i am confused. Should i take it as a good sign or it will start a
new thread of processing.
Any idea?

Thanks,
Adeel
