Which do the INS prefer....copies of your tax returns or the transcripts sent from
the IRS? Does it really matter?

Based on what I've read here transcripts and copies of the actual returns are
equivalent btu perhaps others can post their experiences. Try searching some earlier
posts to the group.

In New York City the preference was for the transcripts. Suppose because they can't
be doctored up as one regular NG poster did to theirs in order to pass the
requirements.

NYC does prefer transcripts, we saw several couples who were sent to get theirs,
maybe it is because it is so convenient with the IRS right across the street
from the INS.

In our case I misunderstood and thought it was an either/or thing, I did not have
copies of my own for 2 years so I got the transcripts for those and had the copy for
the other year, our interviewer didn't seem to care as long as each year was
covered.... but if you have time, and actually have the copies go ahead and bring
both... the transcripts are free and you'll be covered either way.
