Re: Off to the states... am i mad?
Hello.
Have to admit i forgot to type the 2nd 't' in Slartibartfast in
With regards to the Green Card.
I had a personal recommendation from Defense Attaché BRIG. GEN. Thomas W. Bergeson, USAF. I know him slightly as he awarded me a medal a few years ago. I suppose that may have helped.

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?
Can I be nosy and ask what the job you're going to be doing in the US is? I'm just intrigued as not many companies will go straight to a greencard and wait for you to get it before starting work, and I've not heard of being able to go to the US embassy and chat to somebody for a few hours before either. So I'm guessing it's pretty specialist and curious minds would like to know! (well, mine would anyway ).

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?
Brief history.
I was a Captain in the Coldstream Guards and was attached to Millitary Intelligence for a while in Iraq then Afghanistan and assisted with in-field operational matters in Helmand for a year. Worked with UK, US and French forces
If that helps

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?
During booming years, a lot of jobs are available that Americans can't fill so companies look for foreign talent and hire people only if the company can acquire a H1-B visa (limited number available) which are generally vastly oversubscribed so there is a lottery to allocate the visas. During the recent years with the bad economy, not many companies are looking for foreign talent so generally foreigners have to be very specialized in order to be offered a job but there are plenty of H1-B visa available and if applied for at the wrong time of the year, the employee can't start work before October 1.

Re: Off to the states... am i mad?
Have to admit i don't know
Deloitte in London called me a couple of weeks ago and told me they'd like to see me for an interview. Went along was offered the job at the interview and was asked if i would be able to stay in London the night to visit the US Embassy the next day.
Figured it was being 'eased' through a bit quick but apart from that i'm pretty clueless as to the ruminations of the US Emigration system
