What is it with (male) politicians around the world that they can't seem to keep their trousers on? So many of them get embroiled in sex scandals.... Maybe the pursuit of power goes to their heads. Oddly enough the French don't seem to care and it seems quite natural for a French minister to have a mistress, who even turn up at their funerals.

They always seem to trot out their 'loyal/understanding/supportive' wives at their press conferences too, as did Spitzer today, NJ Governor James McGreevey when he announced that he was a 'gay American'. Hillary Clinton famously stood 'by her man'.

I particularly remember the British Conservative MP for Putney and Cabinet Minister, David Mellor (wonder if Elvira ever spotted him in her neighbourhood?) who trotted out his entire family for the cameras when the tabloids broke the story that he was having sex sessions with an actress whilst wearing a Chelsea FC strip! Mellor is spectacularly unattractive so the actress certainly wasn't interested in his looks, perhaps he had other charming traits.... (There was a scene based on this in 'Little Britain' which was very funny).

A few years later we spent part of the Christmas holidays at the Sheraton Mirage resort in Port Douglas, Australia. It just happened that David Mellor (whose wife had since divorced him) was staying at the same hotel with his new mistress/partner named Lady Cobham and we seemed to encounter them all day and during the evenings around the hotel grounds and were laughing at the books they were reading; she was reading Margaret Thatcher's "The Path to Power" and he was reading the latest Jeffrey Archer novel. I remarked to my husband that Mellor should have been back in the UK spending at least some of the Christmas holidays with his young children.

Mark Oaten was our MP in Winchester and we spoke to him many times. He was always appearing on the radio station I worked at.

He was an utterly charming man and the people of Winchester loved him.

This story was SHOCKING when it came out, since he was the clean-nosed, 'family values' man with the wife and the adorable kids...

In actual fact, the full details of this story are pretty horrific and also feature a football kit!!!

Are all politicians dumb or just arrogant? We vote for these fools & they ain't to smart. Swear we could find 7 year olds with more brains, they are either caught in boys toilets or hiring hookers.
