NVC Security Check Delays

Hi,

My approved K3 petition has been stuck at NVC for past five weeks due
to "background security checks implemented after Septebmer 11". Is any
one else experiencing any processing delays due to the name checks?

thanks

Re: NVC Security Check Delays

Yes, most of us are if your are going through Russia, China, Middle Eastern
countries, etc. Today is 4 weeks wait for me. I expect at least another
month. That's why I'm headin' to Russia in June.

what exactly IS a name check?

Silly question....what exactly IS a name check? The same as a security check? Who checks what? Are they checking the petitioner or the beneficiary? Sorry for the Q's, I've seen the terms a lot but not sure what the checks entail.
Someone elighten me, please...

Believe it is called the IBIS name check. It is done at several points in the BCIS processing and done on both the petitioner and the beneficiary; meaning the alien and the USC. A "hit" will delay the processing. A hit is when a name comes up with something "marked" against it. It might be a speeding ticket, lack of payment of child support, etc. The problem is that some names are common, such as my husband's, and will receive many hits not caused by him but by someone who also has his name. The hit has to be cleared and then the processing can continue.

Re: NVC Security Check Delays

Hi Rene,

The NVC checks if the petitioner's or bebeficiary's name shows up in
several data bases security agencies have; they check against criminal
records in the U.S. and against list of people who are not allowed to
enter the country such as potential terrorists.

So far our case has been delayed more than five months (MSC approved our petition in November of last year!)! But this is because there was an IBIS "hit." I hope this is not very common and that you don't have to go through it. After getting so excited about how our process was moving, now we are stuck and very sad.
Good luck.
VCH.

Hi Keivan, drvics, Fred, and Steve,
I'm sorry to hear of your processes being held up so long. I hope you get clearance soon and things get moving again. My thoughts are with you. I don't know, but I think I'm going to get one of those "hits". I'm glad to have some warning that this could happen. What a test in patience this process is! ***sigh***

Best wishes to all....
Rene

Re: NVC Security Check Delays

The extra name checks don't have anything to do with IBIS hits. It is due
to the country the fiancee is coming from. If from Russia, or middle east,
there is an extra FBI name check. The question I think we have all been
asking is about NVC in particular. If the case was approved by your BCIS
service center after March 3, then it went directly to NVC for security
clearance instead of the embassy. If your case was approved prior to that
date or if he/she is from South America then thank you for your answer but
it doesn't help much.

Has anyone with Russian/Middle Eastern fiancee been approved by BCIS and
case sent to NVC after March 3 been cleared and paperwork sent to embassy
yet?

Re: NVC Security Check Delays

No, I don't believe anyone has been cleared yet. The message board:

http://www.global7network.com/ru/us_...on/default.asp

Is a good gathering of all of us that are dealing specifically with Moscow
and NVC and going through the security check muck right now. Of all the
people that belong to that board, not 1 has been passed on to Moscow yet. I
would encourage those that are in this situation to join in on that board. I
wish everyone all the best.

Thanks,
