Default Now with H1B, also applied for Residency, can anybody help?

I just renewed (well my sponsor) the second 3 year term of my H1 Visa.
Actually, just received the authorization and will be traveling abroad
shortly to get the actual H1B for me and my family. Here it goes:

My current company had also started the process to get the residency.
My job was on the market for 3 months I think and now they are
finalizing the paperwork to submit to the state department of labor.
After that it goes to the federal department of labor and then it goes
to INS and finally I will receive my residency if authorized. Well at
least I think this is the process. Now here are my questions:

1. There are some opportunities that I need to consider with some
other possible employers. These possible employers are willing to
continue all the necessary processes for the residency (good),
however, at this point in time (about to submit paperwork to the state
department of labor) is it safe to change employers?

a) If I change employers, does the process needs to start from the
ground up or can the current process be transfered?
b) If the process needs to start all over again, is there a particular
point in time where I can make a jump to a different company and not
loose any time on the residency process?
c) Is there a premium processing avenue for the residency? (My H1B
extension was authorized in 15 working days through the premium
processing service)

For abvious reasons I cannot ask these questions to my current
company, and to the possible new employers, well, I cannot get in
touch with their counsels yet.

This is just for me to be informed and not be sorprised in the near
future. Hopefully someone here can share some light.

Thanks

Yes.

Ground up.

No to what you asked here, but I'm not clear what you're trying
to find out.

No. Expect 2 to 6 years.
