Hi Guys,

So I attempted to walk my passport to the embassy - this was met by an embassy worker with rolling eyes saying I had to get it couriered (and not by a random company but by FedEx or Royal Mail)

I am due to be in Miami on Tuesday and the passport will be with the embassy tomorrow (Friday 10th Dec) by 1am.

Question is... how long does it take before they say come pick it up and do they always send it or can you go and collect?

I have a feeling I won't have my passport in time for Tuesday :( - seems counter productive that I couldn't drop it off directly to the embassy! (I make a great courier!)

If anyone knows what the likely turnaround time is please let me know - I have seen 5 days which is particularly frustrating as I had my own pritt stick ready to glue it in the back of my passport yesterday! ...

I haven't gotten my passport and I sent it on December 1st and it's the 10th today

Thanks ms123 - Did you use the DX service?

That's annoying! - Have you checked the https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ website to see where your processing is at?

Also did you use the DX Group courier service - I opted for Royal Mail next day delivery and I am based in London.

I live in Japan so I used the local courier. My file turned from refused to administrative processing on December 4th which means they have been working on my case since then.

Sorry, but the US government really doesn't care about your bad planning.

Keep in mind that it's still going to take 2-3 days before your passport even gets the visa in it - and then it'll take another day or so before it gets back to the courier. You can collect it from the courier directly. Generally - it takes about 5-6 days to get the passport back.

... seems counter productive that I couldn't drop it off directly to the embassy!
It's not personal - but consider the chaos that would ensue if everyone decided to do that. You're not a US citizen - you can't enter the Embassy without an appointment.

Hello again guys and girls.

Just an update and a question.

Went for my interview at the embassy on 11/05/2015 which I got recommended for a visa waiver. Finally received the email this morning asking me to send my passport in for visa issuance. So anyone who had their interview around this time and still waiting just hold tight.

Now for a question, it's asking me to send back my passport along with 'visa application supporting documents' any idea what documents they mean?

Appreciate the help as always.

That's surprising as I got a email JUST to send my passport and nothing else for further processing. I even asked if I should send anything else but they said no. It's been 10 days since I sent my passport and no reply yet. This seems to be long ge than the normal wait. Let's see what happens. Hoping I get it soon so I can travel for the holidays. I think you should send supporting documents such as income tax, and other supplementary documents which show you will come back.

Did u use the DX courier service or royal mail?

I'll send everything I took with me on the first visit just to cover myself so there's no more delays. Do u reckon photocopies would be acceptable?

They don't like making things simple do they lol.

I'm no expert, been biting my teeth as million others for months. However for my email yesterday and had to read a hundred times when I logged on after seeing the email.

Is there any chance you have read in excitement in error.

The wording confused me a few times

My email said 'quote'

A U.S. Department of State Consulate officer located in London has indicated that follow-up actions are required for the following applicant(s).

Applicant Status
MistyKnight17 Needs Follow-Up Documents

Consular Section Comments:

Please submit passport for visa issuance Please note that you have 30 days from today in which to resubmit your passport. If your passport is not received within this time your application will experience even further delays You are NOT required to submit any other additional supporting documents

Please log into your user account at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-GB/niv/account and follow the system instructions.

Not sure if I helped but you at least can see someone else's email ?!?

Yeah I got the exact same email and out of excitement I didn't see at the bottom it says' you are NOT required to send any supporting documents' so it's just the passport, it was before I had my cup of coffee so that's my excuse. Thanks for the reply :)

That's amazing news !! Well done and happy to hear.

No excuse needed. Not ashamed to say heart fell I mouth and cried my eyes out in happiness in the middle of a nail salon lol

As I said took me a few reads to see the words properly

How exciting!!

I dropped my passport at 09:00 today and just received the tracked and delivered receipt from US Embassy

Good luck.

That doesn't fill me with confidence. I'm waiting for my second visa to be granted. I went on the 19th may and still waiting. But I'm I haven't booked anything which is good. However, everyone's situation is different so we can't really go on that.

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application

Hi guys,

I applied for an F-1 renewal on June 18 - still waiting, obviously. Point of concern - two days after I submitted my DS-160, I received an letter telling me my B1 visa (valid through to 2017, received before a waiver of ineligibility was necessary in my case) had been revoked. That didn't happen when I applied for my first F-1. Is this because I have a US drivers licence/SNN and so on? (Nothing else has changed on my application - no new cautions/convictions and so on...) The National Visa center don't think it'll impact this application, but then again, they also told me I wouldn't need to go through the waiver process for a renewal too, so I'm not inclined to take their word for it...

Any help/information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application

Hello everyone, I just have a quick question. I'm on an L-2 dependant visa acquired through (waiver of ineligibilty) we were hoping our L-1 employer to petition for a green card so that I don't have to come back and wait for another 8 months away from my family but they said that they're not ready yet to petition. I had asked a lawyer what I can do to avoid coming back to renew my waiver and he said that there was a way of doing that but I had to stay in the US for 3 years without travelling out, unfortunately we didn't discuss it extensively since my lawyer was going on holiday and he sadly passed away while on holiday. I feel confused and I want to ask if one can renew the "waiver of ineligibilty" while INSIDE the US, it's very hard to find a good lawyer especially if you're new to a place and have no friends nor extended family. I would like to know what is this process that he was saying that I can renew 6 months early while in the US which would have restricted me to travel for 3 years. Ian, your knowledge is eagerly being needed.

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application

I had my interview yesterday (11-12-15). Got recommend for a waiver which I understand could take up to 8 month's to process. My question is presuming I'm successful how long will my waiver last for? Is it true the first waiver you get is usually only valid for 6 months, or is there a chance I could get a 1 year or 2 year waiver?

I appreciate your thoughts.

Andy

With all due respect to your lawyer, I don't think he's right. If he was right - then a lot of people would be asking about it and doing it... and those of us who have been on this forum for many years would have certainly heard about it. That's not the case to my knowledge - and I've been following this forum and its antecedent for 18 years.

I don't think you can. You need a waiver in order to get a visa... but a visa is nothing more than a travel document. Once you're inside the US, you have no need for a waiver. Since you can't apply for a visa while you're inside the US then, by extension, I seriously doubt you can apply for a waiver from inside the US. I just don't think there's a mechanism by which to do so.

First waivers are usually valid for 1 year... but there's really no way to know, in advance, whether your waiver will be usual. It could be valid for 6 months but that's unlikely. It won't be valid for more than 1 year.

Second waivers are also usually valid for 1 year. Third waivers are usually valid for 2 years, and subsequent waivers are usually valid for 5 years. Waivers will never be valid for more than 5 years.

Thank you Ian, I really hoped he was right but there's nothing as good as knowing the truth rather than living in false hope. I'm just worried since I have to fill out an EAD which I was informed that it takes 90days MAX and by the time I get a job it'll be almost time to come back again and start the process (8 months wait) and God knows how these will be impacted by the ongoing instability. Well.....now we know that what we do in a moment of insanity can cost us dearly.

Under US law, you can't be denied employment based solely on the future expiration date of your authorization.

Quick question for those that submitted passport to US Embassy via DX

Is the tracking number in email received from Consular only for the passport being delivered to the embassy or is that the same tracking number that will let you know when it's ready for collection back at the DX

Will they email when it's left the embassy ?!

Happy Sunday and as always, very grateful for any advice

Have a great day.

I just found out that my I-94 form was stamped to expire in 2018. I'm on a (waiver of ineligibilty L-2)which expires in 2016, I've done some research and people are saying that you should always abide with the date on the I-94 form. My question is, does that mean I do not have to come back to the consular to renew my visa waiver and stay till 2018 when the I-94 expires.

You are able to remain inside the USA until the date marked on your I-94.

First off... don't say "visa waiver"... because people will incorrectly assume you mean the "visa waiver program" which is, most definitely, not what you're talking about.

That said... yes - the I-94 determines the date by which you must leave the US. You are allowed to remain in the US even if your visa expires, so long as you are still within the valid date on the I-94. If you leave the US at any time after your visa expires but before the I-94 expires, you must appear at a US Consulate abroad and get a new visa... which means a new waiver.

Best wishes for all,

For questions about Canada visas, it would be better to post in the Canadian immi section of the forum. Be aware though, that Canada is often stricter than the US when it comes to criminal records - it's not clear from your posts what you've been arrested for, and whether you were charged or not, but you can find out info on the CIC website and figure out if you need criminal rehab or not to enter Canada.

Even if you don't require rehab to enter Canada, you will of course have to declare any conviction or criminal record when you apply for a visa, and should assume that Canadian immi officers can see your record.

HTH, good luck.
